Should you take the PLUNGE?
Yep- we’re talking about cold plunging! Cold plunging is all the rage these days. People are jumping into freezing cold water to improve their health, mood, and energy levels. My bestie swears by this and does plunges regularly! I personally don’t see how anyone can do it! I’m a steaming hot shower kinda girl and I have VERY DRY skin to prove it!
But anyways, what is cold plunging, and is it REALLY worth it?
Cold plunging is the practice of immersing yourself in cold water, typically below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. To achieve health benefits, the temperature should be below 59 degrees for at least 11 minutes per week. It's not for the faint of heart, but it has a number of potential benefits, including:
Improved mood
Reduced inflammation
Improved cardiovascular health
Boosted immune system
Increased energy levels
If you're healthy and looking for a way to challenge yourself and improve your health, cold plunging is a great option (so my bestie insists). And it's not as bad as it sounds, if you like that kind of thing. Once you get over the initial shock, it's actually quite refreshing.
Here are a few helpful tips for cold plunging:
Don't be afraid to wear a swimsuit. I know, I know. It's tempting to go naked, but it's not worth the risk of hypothermia.
Don't dive in. Instead, slowly lower yourself into the water. This will give your body time to adjust to the cold.
Don't stay in too long. Start with a few minutes and gradually increase the amount of time you spend in the cold water.
Don't do it alone. Tell someone where you're going and when you expect to be back. Just in case.
Have fun! Cold plunging is a great way to challenge yourself and improve your health. But it's also important to enjoy the experience.
So next time you're feeling down or need a boost of energy, consider taking a cold plunge. It's the chillest way to boost your health!
Of course, there are also some risks associated with cold plunging, such as hypothermia and heart attack. It's important to talk to your doctor before trying cold plunging, especially if you have any underlying health conditions.
And remember, if you don't like it, you can always just get out.
